What is clause linting?

Last updated:

Short answer

Clause linting reads your draft paragraph by paragraph and flags risky, vague or non-standard wording, like a spell-checker aimed at legal substance. Each finding points to the sentence, is graded INFO, WARNING, RISK or BLOCKER, and can offer a one-click rewrite from your clause library.

How it works in Attorly

  • Rule packs are deepest for NDAs, employment contracts, leases, commercial contracts and lawsuit responses; the engine runs on other documents too.
  • Only changed paragraphs are re-linted as you type.
  • Custom playbook rules run alongside the built-in packs.
  • The trial includes five full lint passes per week; with your own Anthropic key, use is unlimited.

Frequently asked questions

How is clause linting different from playbook review?
Linting checks how your own draft is written while you write it. Playbook review grades a contract, often the other side’s, against your negotiation positions.
